On March 4th, we commemorate the centenary of the birth of Llorenç Gomis Sanahuja (Barcelona, 1924), one of the most influential voices in humanist thought, journalism, and Catalan culture of the 20th century. To mark the occasion, Canal 33 will broadcast the documentary Llorenç Gomis, el mestre serè at 10:15 p.m. — a production by Highland Agency co-directed by Raimon Cartró, CEO of the agency, and journalist Jordi Pacheco.
This 48-minute film explores the life and legacy of Gomis, a key figure in the cultural and media landscape of postwar Spain. He was the founder and editor of El Ciervo magazine for over five decades, director of El Correu Català, editorial writer at La Vanguardia, and a respected professor at institutions such as UAB, Blanquerna, and UPF, where he also served as ombudsman.
The documentary weaves together unpublished archival material and interviews with over fifteen voices who knew him personally and professionally. Among them are his wife, journalist and editor Roser Bofill; former La Vanguardia director Lluís Foix; poet Alejandro Amusco; and priest and journalist Francesc Romeu. It offers an intimate portrait that delves into his family life, spiritual beliefs, poetic work, and the creative partnership he shared with Chilean cartoonist Fernando Krahn — a duo that left a lasting mark on the opinion section of La Vanguardia for more than two decades.
With an original score by composer Joan Barranca, Llorenç Gomis, el mestre serè is a thoughtful audiovisual tribute, produced by Highland with a firm commitment to preserving memory and public values through storytelling.
“This is a small tribute to a great man who deeply shaped the lives and outlook of many communication professionals in both Catalonia and Spain,”
says Raimon Cartró, co-director of the documentary and executive producer at Highland.
This release marks another step in Highland’s cultural and editorial journey, reaffirming our dedication to stories that deserve to be told.
